A wily fox chases a mouse through a chicken coop, beside a river, and up a tree, but where will it all end? Teach your kids all about prepositions through this fun and frolicking tale about a fox and a mouse. The simple text and playful story will keep you turning every page to the surprise ending. Filled with the colorful and humorous illustrations of Jim Bradshaw, Around the House the Fox Chased the Mouse is a story that is sure to delight readers of all ages.

With simple text and hilarious illustrations, this story delivers an easy-to-digest language lesson. The barnyard is in a flurry as a fox races around, under, and off to catch a mouse. Grandma is sent sailing, the chickens all go cross-eyed, and the horses turn snaggle-toothed with surprise. What does Fox do when he finally catches up with the frenzied Mouse? Tag! Youre it! Walton excels at making grammar accessible, and this title is a shining example. Each of Bradshaws bright, oversize illustrations clearly supports the accompanying text. Children will laugh out loud at the animals exaggerated postures and facial expressions.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITY

Retelling a Circle Story
As a hands-on application, model to students how to create a six-page circle book. Fold a paper into thirds, as when sending a letter, and inserting it into an envelope. Then, refold one of the fold lines in the opposite direction so the paper becomes an accordion-folded, six-page blank book. Number each page from one to six and write on each page in such a way as to retell the story in six events. When the book is turned back over to the first page, the story repeats itself.
